Reflective Practice Report Essay Example
Reflective Practice Report Essay Example Reflective Practice Report Essay Reflective Practice Report Essay Essay Topic: Reflective Reflective Report Term 1 Primary School, Alderman Davies When I arrived at the Primary school placement, Alderman Davies I met with one of my supervisors in Reception and gave her my details and showed her my CRB. I then went into the reception classroom with her and we had a chat about what the school expected of me and things I would be doing with the children, the times I start and finish. She discussed the polices and procedures with me but explained they do not give them out because they have too many students and would cost them too much money to print for everyone. She asked me if I had any questions for her and explained who I needed to see if I had any problems. She then took me on a quick tour of the school because I knew where a lot of things were because it was the school I attended when I was at primary school. I went to be introduced to some of the new staff and was introduced to my class teacher and the class I would be working with. There I was given my first task of helping the children draw flowers for harvest to be put up as decorations in the church. Whilst I have been in this placement and in the class I was in with mixed ages I have learned a lot about the children and their needs. I have learned that some children in the class who are the same age may need some more support than others. I have learned to judge when children need help or are just being lazy and done really need it, and I have learned to be a lot more patient. I have also learned that it the children trust you very quick and are very venerable, and copy things they see other people doing. Since being at Alderman Daviesââ¬â¢ I have enjoyed every minute of working with the children. They all have completely different personality and can be very cheeky if you let them be. They each of them have began to trust me and trust me to do work with them and to look after them during the day. I have loved doing activities with the children that I had been set to do in college and I know the children enjoyed them too. I had so much fun helping prepare the Christmas concert, helping sort out costumes and helping the children learn all the songs. Making Christmas things with the children was very enjoyable and watching them enjoy themselves made me very happy that I helped put the smile on their faces. The thing I dislike the most about this placement is that Teaching assistants didnââ¬â¢t respect me as much as the teachers did. And it knocked my confidence a bit when I was near them, and the some of the children took it as a cue that they could disrespect me to. However I did not let it ruin my time there and I enjoyed it as much as I possibly could. However I disliked seeing the children upset and thought that some of the dinner time supervisors didnââ¬â¢t deal with some of the problems well enough. My strengths during this placement have been that I could turn up on time and I was very creative in thinking of ideaââ¬â¢s for helping the children learn and coming up with games for them to play witch they were learning through doing too. Another strength was that I could build good relationships with the children and staff because I was very confident from the beginning and am easy to talk to. This helped me a lot and made me enjoy my time more. I also encourage children to join in with activities and helped them build their confidence be when they say they couldnââ¬â¢t do something took the time to tell them they can do it and helped them to do it and made sure they were able to before I left them. My only weakness was at the beginning I was very nervous of doing activities with the children because I didnââ¬â¢t know them and had never done it before. With help from kind staff and just gave it my best short and my confidence grew even more and I am now able to explain tasks to the children with confidence. If I was to do this placement again I would do it all the same because I absolutely enjoyed everything and all my time there. However I would not worry about anything and have more confidence at the beginning. Information I would give to students coming behind me would be is have a brilliant time and enjoy every minute because it goes so fast. I would recommend to have confidence because the teachers know how you feel because they were in your position once before. I would advise to be patient and take time to listen to the children and to stay on top of the work because it could mount high on top of you and its worth doing. Ill be sad to leave this placement so enjoy everything.

Understanding the Difference Between Lend and Loan
Understanding the Difference Between Lend and Loan In formal usage (especially in British English), lend is a verb and loan is a noun. In informalà American English, the use of loan as a verb is generally considered acceptable (particularly when it concerns the lending of money). See the usage notes below. Only lend has figurative uses, as in Lend me your ears or Lend me a hand. Also see:Commonly Confused Words: Loan and Lone Examples: Borrow trouble for yourself, if thats your nature, but dont lend it to your neighbors. (Rudyard Kipling)A bank, so the old saying goes, is a place where you can always get a loan- when you dont need one. Usage Notes Although most expert users of English dislike loan as a verb (I loaned him my pen), except in financial contexts, it must be acknowledged that the usage is sanctioned by dictionaries. If you are not offended by Friends, Romans, countrymen, loan me your ears or by Distance loans enchantment, you may go along with the dictionaries and you will always have a defense.(Theodore M. Bernstein, Miss Thistlebottoms Hobgoblins, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1971)Some people are bothered by the word loan as a verb, preferring to use lend in its place. Theres not much reason for the anxiety- loan has been a verb since around the year 1200, and I think an 800-year probation is long enough for anyone- but its now little used in America. My advice: dont be bothered by loan as a verb but, if you want to avoid irritating those who have this hangup, its never wrong to use lend.(Jack Lynch, The English Language: A Users Guide, Focus, 2008)The verb loan is well established in American usage and cannot be c onsidered incorrect. The frequent objections to the form by American grammarians may have originated from a provincial deference to British critics, who long ago labeled the usage a typical Americanism. Loan is, however, used to describe only physical transactions, as of money or goods; for figurative transactions, lend is correct: Distance lends enchantment. The allusions lend the work a classical tone.(The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th ed., 2000) These are sometimes interchangeable, sometimes not. Only lend carries the figurative senses of adding or giving, as in lend strength to the cause or lend color to an otherwise routine event. But for other senses, as when property or money pass temporarily from one owner to another, either word could be used. . . . In American and Australian English, the verb loan is readily used as an alternative to lend in such applicationsbut not so much in contemporary British English. The word was used in Britain up to C17, but a curious resistance seems to have developed there during C18 and C19, when the Oxford Dictionary (1989) citations are all from the US, and the word somehow acquired provincial associations. Fowler (1926) noted that it had been expelled from southern British English, but that it was still used locally in the UK. Yet Gowers writing after World War II found it returning to British government writing (1948, 1954) and weighs in against it in his 1965 edition of Fowler as a nee dless variant (1965). This seems to be the basis on which British usage commentators argue that loan must be used only as a noun (except in banking and finance) and lend as a verb. Some British dictionaries (Collins, 1991) and the Canadian Oxford (1998) still echo the inhibition, while data from the BNC [British National Corpus] shows that many British writers are comfortable with it. (Pam Peters, The Cambridge Guide to English Usage, Cambridge University Press, 2004) Practiceà (a) Never _____ your car to anyone to whom you have given birth.(Erma Bombeck)(b) Gus asked Merdine for a _____. Answers to Practice Exercises (a) Neverà lendà your car to anyone to whom you have given birth. (Erma Bombeck)(b) Gus askedà Merdineà for aà loan.

Summary - Essay Example Whenever there is social prevention, children feel that they are being heard and taken care of through attention and supervision by their parents. This will reduce criminal activities for children who engage in criminal activities do not get attention and supervision from their parents. Social approach also effective to practice than punitive approach. The approach involves activities such as sports, arts, music and dance which are important in keeping childrenââ¬â¢s minds at work and prevent them from doing other things. It also reduces the desire to commit other crimes than punishments. When children are punished they get rude and they become more susceptible to mistakes. In addition, punishments instill fear in children . Thus, they are more likely to commit a crime. Furthermore, most children are no longer scared of punishments. Rewarding them with things they like to do will help them avoid crimes rather than punishments (Rosenbaum, 1998). Finally, social prevention is more effective than punishments. The use of training, guiding and counseling, foster care can work effectively in the society. This is based on the fact that the child understands to distinguish between good and bad things in the society. Hence, it becomes easy for the child to implement the values in daily lives. When these activities are implemented in the society, adults can also benefit from the same. The ââ¬Å"strengthening the familyâ⬠approach aims to achieve effective parenting in order to prevent problems such as child abuse, neglect among many others. Payola Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Payola - Essay Example Payola goes back to the 1920s and the days of vaudeville and continued through the 1940s with the big band era (Hornberger). Paying a station to play a record was legal as long as the disc jockey notified the listeners that the airtime was purchased. This was often overlooked for decades until the era of rock and roll. Up until 1950, the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) controlled nearly all the music in the dancehalls, hotels, radio, and theaters. Their offices were in New York City and the directors had total control of the content. They would not allow membership for 'black' or 'hillbilly' artists (DiMaggio 608). Several networks split from ASCAP due to their rates and racist policies and in 1939 they formed Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI). After World War II BMI set about signing the black and hillbilly artists that ASCAP had refused to work with. This core of musical outcasts would form the genesis of rock and roll. Teenagers were hungry for rock and the 45-RPM record made it accessible. By the early 1950s major BMI labels were turning out 100 new singles a week (Cartwright). DJs, suffocated with new recordings, would be paid by the record companies to promote a record. This was nothing new or unusual in the business.

Impact Of Internet In International Marketing Information Technology Essay Electronic commerce has increasingly become a necessary component of business in the emerging global economy. Electronic commerce is any form of business transaction interacts electronically to exchange the products and services rather than physical exchange. E-commerce is the use of electronic communications and digital information processing technology in business transactions to create, transform, and redefine relationships for value creation between or among organizations, and between organizations and individuals (Andam, 2003). The presentation of group highlights the Electronic commerce in International Marketing and how internet impacted in International Business. In this report our studies indicated further findings on models of E-Commerce and the impact of internet on target market. Generally most of the studies found out that the use of Internet in International Marketing has a positive impact on the organizations marketing performance. Impact of Internet in International Marketing The internet and its associated technology has provided an economical and efficient way for organizations to create an additional e-commerce activities to market their products and services over the past several years (Smith, 2005). Internet affects the activities of marketing channels in three different ways, such as 1. Communication channels, its principal functions are to inform customers or buyers about availability and characteristics of suppliers products/services and facilitate buyers to communicate with sellers; 2. Transaction channels, whose primary function is to facilitate financial exchanges between buyers and sellers and 3.Distribution channels, its main function is to facilitate physical exchanges (Thomas, 2008). Brock (2001) found in his study of German small technology-based firms that the Internet had a positive impact on attitudinal, resource-related, information-related and network-related aspects of internationalisation, thereby facilitating the process. The effect of the internet on the international businesses is making it easier for companies to participate in foreign markets, globally rollout new products, making easier for companies to offer globally standardized products or services, is more often used by companies for customer-related activities than for production-related activities, is not being used much by companies to develop a globally uniform marketing mix and is being used somewhat by companies in selling and customer-related activities to help with the strategy of making globally coordinated competitive moves (). The Internet has given rise to a new economics of information, with the blowing up of the trade-off between the richness of information involved in a transaction and the number of people that it could reach (Wurster, 2000). There are lot of advantages when an organization uses internet for their business. Internet can increase the sales and it can decrease the costs. Because the web advertisements reaches an amount of customers all over the world. A business can reduce its costs by using electronic commerce in its sales support and order-taking processes, twenty four hours online shopping, lower transaction cost, larger purchases for transaction, People can shop in different ways (Prashantham, 2003). Also organization has some disadvantages when they use internet for their business. Such as hidden costs, vulnerability to technical crash, cost of staying in business, lack of security, invasion of privacy, low service levels and legal issues. Models of E-commerce There are different types of e-commerce (). Such as B2B model B2C model C2C model C2B model B2G model M-commerce B2B model is the buyers, sellers, and transactions involve only organizations. It covers a broad spectrum of applications that enable an enterprise to form electronic relationships with its distributors, resellers, suppliers, customers, and other partners. This is the type of e-commerce that deals with relationships between and among businesses. B2C model, here transactions take place between consumers and business houses. Here individuals are also involved in the online business transactions. C 2 B model, here individuals who use the Internet to sell products or services to organizations and /or seek sellers to bid on products or services they need. These transactions involve reverse auctions, which empower the consumer to drive transactions. C 2 C model which is used by consumers to sell their product/services directly to other consumers. This type of e-commerce is characterized by the growth of electronic marketplaces and online auctions. M-commerce (mobile commerce) is the buying and selling of goods and services through wireless technology. The advantage of this model than others is delivery over wireless devices becomes faster, more secure, and scalable. Conclusion According to Yip and Dempster the impact of the Internet on performance was positive, but moderate, and the greatest positive effect was on brand awareness and brand image. The use of the Internet technologies to link customers, suppliers, business partners, and employees using at least one of the following: (a) e-commerce Web sites that offer sales transactions, (b) customer-service Web sites, (c) Intranets (Wu et al,2001). Critically Compare and Contrast Community Psychology and Public Health Approaches to Social Problems
In this essay, I will critically compare and contrast community psychology and public health approaches to social problems. I will do this by comparing strengths and weaknesses of both approaches, as well as similarities between these approaches. To compare these two concepts, one should first have a basic understanding of the origins and historical development of community psychology and public health. According to the American Heritage Medical dictionary (www. ahdictionary. om) Community Psychology is ââ¬Å"the application of psychology to community programs for the prevention of mental health disorders and the promotion of mental health. â⬠Community psychology has its roots in the mental health reform movements in the USA, according to Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811 (2013). The three most important reform movements were the ââ¬Å"moral treatmentâ⬠(early 1800ââ¬â¢s), the ââ¬Å"mental hygieneâ⬠(early 1900ââ¬â¢s) and ââ¬Å"deinstitutionalisationâ⠬ (1960ââ¬â¢s) (Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811). Each of these movements was intended to view and treat mental illness as a social problem rather than an individual problem. It was also a move towards ââ¬Ëprevention rather than cureââ¬â¢ concerning mental illness. (Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811) According to Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811 (2013) there are two major models of community psychology: the Mental Health model and the Social action model. The location of mental illness, according to the Mental Health model, is at the method of interaction between individual and environmental factors. The Social Action model places the location of mental illness ââ¬Ëwithin oppressive and exploitative social and economic structuresââ¬â¢ (Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811, 2013) Public health, like community psychology, focuses on prevention of disease. It is defined as ââ¬Å"the science and practice of protecting and improving the health of a community as by preventative medicine; health education; control of communicable diseases; application of sanitary measures and monitoring of environmental hazardsâ⬠by the American Heritage Dictionary www. ahdictionary. com) Like community psychology, public health also focuses less on the individual and more on the public and society in general. Public health concerns itself with the prevention of lifestyle diseases, such as heart problems, as well as diseases of which the occurrence can be reduced if the public is educated about it, such as HIV/AIDS and cholera (Tut 102 for PYC4811). Public health, as practised in South Afri ca and most industrialized countries, is based on the biomedical/western model of illness. According to this model, the reason for disease and distress (and, therefore, mental illness) is because of lesions within the body or mind. These lesions are caused by an interaction between a. ) The characteristics of the individual (such as age, educational level, nutritional status, etc), b. ) Disease-causing agents (such as germs, viruses, alcohol, etc) and c. ) External environmental and social issues (such as poverty, war, pollution, etc). (Tutorial letter 102/0/2013for Pyc4811, 2013). According to Marc Zimmerman (http://www. answers. om), there are many similarities between the Community Health and Public Health fields, such as their methods, topics, theories and values. Both fields use methods such as advocacy, community organizing, policy influence, and dissemination (Zimmerman, http://www. answers. com). They also both apply theories and conceptual models, such as empowerment theory, social change theories and ecological theory. Community Psychology concerns itself with cu ltural issues and differences through the application of theory, research and intervention programs. This is similar to Public Health approaches because these programs are designed to match the values, norms, and beliefs of the community or public, whether the focus is on ethnic, behavioural, gender, or cultural differences. Both Community Psychology and Public Health regard social relationships and involve the community. Both also consider the external factors when looking at the individualââ¬â¢s problems, so as not to solely blame the individual for the problem, and will advocate social rather than individual change. (Perkins, 2011) There are, however, key aspects in which the two approaches differ. While Community Psychology concerns itself more with mental health issues and behavioural aspects of health (such as promiscuity, drug use, etc) , Public Health seems to focus more on traditional health issues, such as communicable diseases (like HIV/AIDS, T. B, etc). The two approaches also differ in the sense that Community Psychology focuses on theory and social research, while Public Health has a more practise-orientated approach to social problems. Zimmerman, http://www. answers. com) To conclude, I would not say that these differences are irreconcilable, as the two approaches have more in common than they differ. When dealing with the mental health of the community, I believe that it would be advantageous to apply both Community Psychology AND Public Health approaches. Because both approaches focus on prevention and empowerment, as well as community involvement, they can fulfil each otherââ¬â¢s short comings by using the same principles.

Consultation Relating to a 30-Year old Patient with A Dog-Bite Free Essay Example, 1250 words
From the facts of the case, the patient had already been in the minor injury unit for the past 3 days. Hence, there was a need for some kind of diagnosis of the extent of her injury and her challenges. The main strategy had to be one that would deal with complications and matters that might have developed over the past days in order to prevent them from causing issues for the client. However, the fundamental fear was the possibility of some bacteria entering her body. This is because the dog-bite was expected to be one that contained some kind of complication and micro-organisms that could be destructive. Hence the patient was to be treated on the basis of that. Thus, there was a need for the control of the antibiotics that will be used in dealing with the case and the situation to prevent further complications like rabies and other challenges that could come up.
